SQL Injection in phpTransformer 2016.9 GeneratePDF.php idnews Parameter
CVE-2019-25578 is an SQL injection vulnerability in phpTransformer 2016.9. The flaw is present in GeneratePDF.php, where the idnews GET parameter is insufficiently sanitized before being incorporated into SQL queries. A remote attacker can send crafted HTTP GET requests containing SQL payloads in idnews, causing the application to execute unintended SQL statements. Based on the provided content, exploitation can be used to extract sensitive database information or alter the logic of backend queries.
What it means and what to do now: patch path, interim mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.
What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.
Successful exploitation allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary SQL queries in the context of the application's database operations. This can expose sensitive data stored in the database and permit manipulation of query results or underlying data, with high confidentiality impact and limited integrity impact as reflected in the provided CVSS information.
If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.
If an immediate code fix or upgrade is not possible, restrict external access to GeneratePDF.php, especially from untrusted networks, and place the application behind a WAF with rules to detect and block SQL injection payloads targeting the idnews parameter. Apply least-privilege permissions to the backend database account used by phpTransformer to limit data exposure and query manipulation. Increase logging and monitoring for anomalous requests to GeneratePDF.php and SQL error conditions.
Patch, then assume compromise.
Upgrade from phpTransformer 2016.9 to a fixed version if one is available from the vendor. In the affected code path, GeneratePDF.php should be modified to use parameterized queries or prepared statements for the idnews parameter, with strict server-side input validation and type enforcement. Any dynamic SQL construction using unsanitized request parameters should be removed. Review similar request handlers for the same pattern.
