CVE-2020-1380 is a remote code execution vulnerability in the Internet Explorer scripting engine, specifically in jscript9.dll, caused by improper handling of objects in memory. Available reporting identifies the flaw as a use-after-free condition associated with JIT-compiled code paths in JScript. By triggering memory corruption, an attacker can obtain arbitrary code execution within the Internet Explorer process in the security context of the current user. Public analysis of in-the-wild exploitation describes abuse of freed script-managed objects to achieve overlapping object layouts, arbitrary read/write primitives, Control Flow Guard bypass, and eventual shellcode execution. The issue affects Internet Explorer 11 and applications or documents that host the Internet Explorer rendering engine.
