CVE-2020-15782 is a memory protection bypass vulnerability affecting multiple Siemens industrial automation and control products, including SIMATIC controllers, software controllers, PLC simulation software, SINAMICS drives, and SINUMERIK systems. Through a specific operation exposed over the S7 communication service on TCP port 102, a remote unauthenticated attacker can bypass intended memory protection mechanisms on affected devices. Successful exploitation can allow arbitrary data and attacker-supplied code to be written into protected memory regions, or sensitive data to be read from those regions. In PLC environments, this condition can enable loading malicious logic or overwriting core controller functions, including rootkit-like modification of device behavior.
