CVE-2020-25211 is a local buffer-overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel Netfilter conntrack-netlink subsystem, affecting kernels through 5.8.7. The flaw is in ctnetlink_parse_tuple_filter(), with related older parsing paths also implicated. Insufficient validation of an attacker-supplied layer-3 protocol number permits an invalid value to index or copy beyond a local buffer during conntrack tuple-filter parsing. The upstream correction restricts accepted layer-3 protocol values to IPv4 and IPv6 and rejects other values.
