CVE-2020-8958 is an unauthenticated remote OS command injection vulnerability affecting Guangzhou 1GE ONU V2801RW firmware versions 1.9.1-181203 through 2.9.0-181024 and V2804RGW firmware versions 1.9.1-181203 through 2.9.0-181024. The flaw is in the web management interface, specifically the boaform/admin/formPing handler, where the Dest IP Address field is not properly sanitized before being passed to an underlying system shell. An attacker can supply shell metacharacters in that parameter to append arbitrary commands to the ping operation, resulting in execution of attacker-controlled OS commands on the device.
