CVE-2021-20597 is an insufficiently protected credentials vulnerability affecting Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC iQ-R series Safety CPU modules R08SFCPU, R16SFCPU, R32SFCPU, and R120SFCPU running firmware version 26 and earlier, and MELSEC iQ-R series SIL2 Process CPU modules R08PSFCPU, R16PSFCPU, R32PSFCPU, and R120PSFCPU running firmware version 11 and earlier. When user information is registered on the target over the network, or when a password is changed over the network, credentials can be exposed to a network observer. A remote unauthenticated attacker who can sniff the relevant network traffic can obtain those credentials and then use them to log in to the target system without authorization.
