CVE-2021-3331 is an arbitrary program execution vulnerability in WinSCP before 5.17.10. The flaw resides in the application's URL handler logic, which accepted crafted handled URLs and allowed them to load session settings. By supplying attacker-controlled session parameters through a crafted URL, an attacker could set dangerous raw session options, including a local proxy method and an associated command, causing WinSCP to execute that command when the link was opened. In default configurations where WinSCP is registered as a handler for supported URI schemes such as sftp, successful exploitation can be triggered remotely via a malicious link and results in immediate program execution on the victim system.
