CVE-2021-3612 is an out-of-bounds memory-access vulnerability in the Linux kernel joystick-device (joydev) subsystem's handling of the JSIOCSBTNMAP ioctl. Malformed button-map input, including a zero-size value or crafted data, can cause joydev_handle_JSIOCSBTNMAP() to perform an out-of-bounds write and panic the kernel. The write condition was introduced by an upstream change and affects upstream kernels beginning with v5.12-rc1. Earlier affected kernels exhibited an out-of-bounds stack-read condition through the same ioctl path.
