CVE-2021-43267 is a heap-based buffer overflow in the Linux kernel Transparent Inter-Process Communication (TIPC) crypto key-receive path. While processing MSG_CRYPTO messages, the vulnerable routine allocates a buffer according to the declared message payload size, then uses the attacker-controlled key-length field to copy cryptographic-key data before verifying that the effective key structure fits within the allocation. An attacker can provide a small declared payload together with a larger key length, causing an out-of-bounds heap write. The issue affects TIPC implementations in Linux kernel versions from 5.10-rc1 through affected 5.15 releases; fixes were incorporated upstream in late October 2021 and are available in kernel 5.14.16 and vendor-backported kernels.
