CVE-2021-47099 is a flaw in the Linux kernel virtual Ethernet (veth) driver introduced in Linux 5.13. When Generic Receive Offload (GRO) is enabled on a veth device, TCP Segmentation Offload (TSO) is disabled on its peer, NAPI is active, and no XDP program is attached, the veth receive path can deliver shared or cloned socket buffers to the GRO engine without validating their sharing state. Subsequent TCP processing can trigger a kernel BUG in skb_shift. The upstream correction attempts to unclone buffers and bypasses GRO when buffers remain shared or cloned.
