CVE-2021-47101 is an uninitialized-variable vulnerability in the Linux kernel ASIX USB Ethernet driver. In asix_mdio_read(), a call to asix_read_cmd() can complete with fewer bytes than the size of the smsr buffer. The subsequent use of that partially populated buffer by asix_check_host_enable() can therefore consume uninitialized stack data. KMSAN detected the resulting uninitialized-value condition in the ASIX driver implementation. The issue was introduced in Linux kernel 4.9 and was fixed upstream in Linux kernel 5.15.12 and 5.16.
