During framebuffer mode-setting handling, fb_delete_videomode() deleted a video mode irrespective of whether fbcon_mode_deleted() indicated that the mode was still in use. Subsequent mode comparison in fb_mode_is_equal() could dereference the freed mode object. The flaw was introduced in Linux kernel 5.3.
