CVE-2021-47435 is a race condition in the Linux kernel device-mapper subsystem during I/O completion and concurrent device-mapper table replacement. The I/O completion path invoked end_io_acct() before freeing the associated dm_io object and decrementing the in-flight pending count. This ordering could wake a table-swap path, allowing it to suspend the target, replace the table, and destroy its mempools before the completion path subsequently invoked free_io(). The resulting call to mempool_free() dereferences a cleared mempool element pointer, causing a kernel NULL-pointer dereference.
