CVE-2022-0540 is a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in the Seraph authentication framework of Atlassian Jira Server, Data Center, and Jira Service Management. The vulnerability arises from an inconsistency in how the Seraph filter and the Webwork dispatcher process request URIs and servlet paths, specifically when handling path parameters appended with a semicolon (';'). This allows remote, unauthenticated attackers to bypass authentication and authorization controls by crafting specific HTTP requests, potentially granting access to sensitive Jira actions and installed plugins. The flaw affects Jira Server and Data Center versions before 8.13.18, 8.14.0 to 8.20.6, and 8.21.0 to 8.22.0, as well as Jira Service Management Server and Data Center before 4.13.18, 4.14.0 to 4.20.6, and 4.21.0 to 4.22.0. The vulnerability impacts both core Jira and numerous first- and third-party Marketplace apps, some of which enable pre-authentication RCE, stored XSS, or SQL injection.
