CVE-2022-2003 is an information disclosure vulnerability in AutomationDirect DirectLOGIC D0-06 series PLC CPUs. A specifically crafted message sent to the CPU serial interface can cause the device firmware to return the configured PLC password in cleartext rather than protecting it through proper authentication and secure handling. Affected models include multiple DirectLOGIC D0-06 series CPUs with firmware versions prior to 2.72. Research also showed the password-retrieval behavior could be recreated beyond the original serial-only tooling, including adaptation over Ethernet in testing. The flaw enables recovery of the PLC password without legitimately knowing it, after which the attacker can use the disclosed credential to access the controller and alter its configuration or logic.
