CVE-2022-24448 is an information-disclosure vulnerability in the Linux kernel NFS client implementation before version 5.16.5. In nfs_atomic_open(), an application that supplies O_DIRECTORY while opening a regular file on a mounted NFS filesystem can trigger a lookup path in which a server response identifying a regular file is handled incorrectly. Rather than returning ENOTDIR, the kernel returns a file descriptor containing uninitialized data, potentially exposing kernel memory to userspace.
