CVE-2022-39189 is a context-switching race condition in the x86 KVM subsystem of the Linux kernel before 5.18.17. The flaw is in the preemption handling path, including kvm_steal_time_set_preempted(), where TLB flush operations can be mishandled in certain KVM_VCPU_PREEMPTED situations. This can leave guest address-translation state improperly synchronized and enables a user within an affected KVM guest to compromise the guest kernel or cause guest malfunctioning.
