CVE-2022-40139 is a remote code execution vulnerability affecting Trend Micro Apex One and Trend Micro Apex One as a Service clients. The flaw is caused by improper validation of components used by the product's rollback mechanism. An Apex One server administrator can instruct affected clients to download an unverified rollback package, and because the package is not properly validated, a malicious package can be delivered and executed on client systems. The issue therefore creates a trust-boundary failure in the rollback workflow, allowing code supplied through the management infrastructure to run on managed endpoints.
