CVE-2022-41049 is a Windows Mark of the Web (MoTW) security feature bypass vulnerability, also referred to as ZippyReads. The flaw is caused by a failure to set or propagate the MoTW flag to files extracted from archives. Because MoTW is used by Windows and applications such as Microsoft Office to identify content originating from untrusted zones, the missing tag can cause extracted content to be treated as locally trusted rather than internet-originated. This bypass weakens downstream protections that rely on MoTW, including warning prompts and Protected View-style handling of untrusted files.
