CVE-2022-42856 is a type confusion vulnerability in Apple's WebKit browser engine. The flaw was addressed through improved state handling. When WebKit processes maliciously crafted web content, incorrect type assumptions can lead to memory corruption and arbitrary code execution. The issue affects Apple platforms that rely on WebKit, including Safari and browsers on iOS and iPadOS that are required to use the same rendering engine. Apple reported that the vulnerability may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS released before iOS 15.1.
