CVE-2022-42898 is an integer overflow vulnerability in the Privilege Attribute Certificate (PAC) parsing logic of MIT Kerberos 5 (krb5). It affects releases before 1.19.4 and 1.20.x before 1.20.1. The flaw is located in the krb5_pac_parse function in lib/krb5/krb/pac.c. Crafted PAC data can trigger integer overflows during parsing; on 32-bit platforms this can lead to a resultant heap-based buffer overflow, creating a path to remote code execution in Kerberos-related services such as the KDC, kadmind, or applications acting as GSSAPI or Kerberos application servers. On other platforms, the issue can cause process termination or denial of service. Heimdal before 7.7.1 is reported to contain a similar bug.
