CVE-2022-48816 is a race condition in the Linux kernel SUNRPC transport sysfs-read path. The transport socket pointer may be asynchronously changed to NULL unless the receive mutex is held. Sysfs code that reads this state without holding the mutex can dereference an invalid socket pointer and trigger a kernel oops. A prior connected-state check only reduced, rather than eliminated, the race window. The fix serializes sysfs access to the socket pointer by holding the receive mutex.
