CVE-2022-49977 is a flaw in the Linux kernel ftrace subsystem. If ftrace_startup_enable() fails after an ftrace operation has been added to ftrace_ops_list, ftrace is marked disabled but the failed operation is not removed from the list. Subsequent unregistration returns early while ftrace is disabled, leaving a stale list entry. If the dynamically allocated ftrace operation is then freed, is_ftrace_trampoline() can dereference the invalid or NULL operation while iterating ftrace_ops_list, causing a kernel NULL-pointer dereference.
