CVE-2023-0266 is a race-condition use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALSA PCM control-element path. The compat control-element read and write ioctl handling lacks required locking around control-element access. In particular, the read-write semaphore must be held within snd_ctl_elem_read so that an element cannot be freed concurrently with access through the control ioctls. The resulting stale-object access can be exploited by a local attacker operating as the system user.
