CVE-2023-20588 is an information disclosure vulnerability affecting some AMD processors, particularly AMD Zen 1-class CPUs. The flaw is caused by divide-by-zero handling in the processor divider unit. When a divide-by-zero exception occurs, stale quotient data from a previous division operation can remain in the divider state and become observable through subsequent speculative execution behavior. This can result in transient exposure of data that should not be disclosed across security boundaries. The issue is a microarchitectural side-channel condition rather than a conventional memory corruption flaw, and it can lead to loss of confidentiality for data processed on the affected CPU.
