CVE-2023-20870 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in VMware Workstation and VMware Fusion in the functionality that shares host Bluetooth devices with a guest virtual machine. The flaw resides in the virtual Bluetooth device handling path exposed when host Bluetooth hardware is presented to the guest. A related later issue, CVE-2023-34044, was identified as a variant of this vulnerability family and demonstrated that the affected code path could expose sensitive memory from the VMware host process. The vulnerability affects the confidentiality boundary between guest and host by allowing a guest to trigger improper memory reads in the host-side virtualization process.
