Migraine is a macOS System Integrity Protection (SIP) bypass vulnerability in Apple’s migration workflow, assigned CVE-2023-32369. The issue was described by Apple as a logic flaw addressed through improved state management. The vulnerability arises from the interaction between migration components running with privileged inherited entitlements and child processes that can be influenced through attacker-controlled environment variables. In the documented exploitation path, the Apple-signed migration daemon can launch interpreter processes while carrying an entitlement that permits bypass of filesystem-based SIP enforcement across its child process tree. An attacker who already has root privileges can manipulate the daemon’s execution environment and trigger migration processing so that attacker-controlled commands execute in a SIP-bypassing context. This enables modification of filesystem locations that are normally protected even from root on macOS. Apple fixed the issue in macOS Big Sur 11.7.7, macOS Monterey 12.6.6, and macOS Ventura 13.4.
