CVE-2023-34044 is an out-of-bounds read and information disclosure vulnerability in VMware Workstation 17.x prior to 17.5 and VMware Fusion 13.x prior to 13.5. The flaw resides in the virtual Bluetooth device implementation used to share host Bluetooth functionality with a guest virtual machine. In the affected code path, USB Request Blocks (URBs) allocated for virtual Bluetooth operations can contain guest-visible buffer regions that are not fully initialized before being returned to the guest. For certain inbound control requests, only a small header portion of the URB data is populated while the remaining guest-controlled length region may retain stale hypervisor-process heap contents. Because the URB completion path can report an actual length derived from the guest-controlled buffer length, the guest may receive uninitialized memory originating from the VMware host process. The issue has been described as a variant of CVE-2023-20870 and can expose sensitive memory from the vmware-vmx hypervisor process.
