CVE-2023-34968 is a path disclosure vulnerability in Samba's implementation of the Spotlight protocol. When processing search queries, Samba returns results that include server-side absolute paths for shares, files, and directories. A malicious client can abuse Spotlight search functionality, or issue a targeted RPC request, to obtain filesystem path information that should not be exposed to untrusted parties. The flaw results in unintended disclosure of internal path structure rather than direct code execution or modification of data.
