CVE-2023-38951 is an authenticated arbitrary file creation and overwrite vulnerability in ZKTeco BioTime 8.5.5 through 9.x before 9.0.1 (build 20240617.19506). The flaw is exposed through the /base/sftpsetting/ endpoints, where attacker-controlled input in the Username field is subject to path traversal and the SSH Key field is not properly sanitized. By submitting crafted requests, an authenticated attacker can traverse directories and write attacker-controlled content to arbitrary server-side files. Because the vulnerable functionality permits overwriting existing files as well as creating new ones, an attacker may be able to replace security-relevant or executable files. In documented exploitation scenarios, overwriting specific files can result in arbitrary code execution under the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM security context.
