CVE-2023-39417 is a SQL injection vulnerability in PostgreSQL extension script processing. The flaw occurs when an extension script uses the substitution tokens @extowner@, @extschema@, or @extschema:...@ inside a quoting construct such as dollar-quoted strings, single-quoted strings, or double-quoted identifiers. In vulnerable configurations, attacker-controlled crafted schema or user names can be injected into SQL executed during extension installation or update. If an administrator has installed files for a vulnerable trusted non-bundled extension, an attacker with database-level CREATE privilege can exploit the flaw to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the PostgreSQL bootstrap superuser.
