CVE-2023-4207 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's cls_fw network traffic-control classifier. When fw_change() updates an existing filter, it copies the entire tcf_result structure into the replacement filter. If the filter is bound to a class, the successful update calls tcf_unbind_filter() on the old filter, decrementing the class's filter_cnt despite the replacement filter retaining a reference. This permits deletion of the still-referenced class and creates a dangling reference. Exploitation can cause a system crash or potentially enable local privilege escalation.
