CVE-2023-45288 is an uncontrolled resource-consumption vulnerability in the Go HTTP/2 implementations in net/http and golang.org/x/net/http2. An HTTP/2 peer can send an excessive number of CONTINUATION frames for a request header block. Once the request exceeds the configured maximum header size, the implementation does not retain excess header data in memory but continues parsing the HEADERS and CONTINUATION frames to maintain HPACK state. This permits processing an unbounded amount of data associated with a request that will ultimately be rejected. Huffman-encoded header data can impose disproportionately high decoding cost on the receiving endpoint. The fix limits the amount of excess header-frame data processed and closes the connection when that limit is exceeded.
