CVE-2023-50224 is an improper authentication vulnerability affecting TP-Link TL-WR841N routers and reportedly additional legacy TP-Link router and access point models. The flaw exists in the device's HTTP management service, which listens on TCP port 80 by default. A network-adjacent attacker can send crafted HTTP GET requests to the web interface without prior authentication and retrieve sensitive information stored on the device, including administrative credentials or other stored authentication material. Public reporting also describes the issue as enabling retrieval of credentials through unauthenticated requests, after which an attacker can use the exposed credentials to access the administrative interface and alter router configuration.
