CVE-2023-52610 is a memory-reference management flaw in the Linux kernel traffic-control conntrack action (net/sched act_ct). Before packet defragmentation, act_ct incremented the socket-buffer reference count. For in-order fragments, reassembly resets the final fragment reference through the skb morphing path. When fragmented packets arrive out of order, the added reference to the final fragment is not released, leaking all fragments in the reassembly flow. Processing cloned and simultaneously shared socket buffers can additionally violate skb assumptions during reassembly and trigger a kernel BUG in the skb head-expansion path.
