CVE-2023-52679 is a double-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel Open Firmware/device-tree code, in of_parse_phandle_with_args_map(). The function’s inner loop releases the reference held in new through of_node_put(new), assuming new is NULL during its first iteration. Across outer-loop iterations, new can retain a stale value after assignment to cur, allowing an already released reference to be released again. The upstream fix clears new after its value is assigned to cur and adds unit tests that detect and exercise the affected path. The flaw was introduced in Linux kernel 4.17.
