CVE-2023-52707 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel scheduler Pressure Stall Information (PSI) subsystem. When a non-root cgroup is removed while a thread has registered a PSI trigger and is polling a pressure file in that cgroup, cgroup teardown invokes psi_trigger_destroy() and frees the polling wait queue. The polling thread can nevertheless retain a reference to the pressure file. On subsequent file close or thread exit, ep_remove_wait_queue() reaches remove_wait_queue() and accesses the freed wait queue. The upstream correction handles the wait-queue lifetime mismatch with wake_up_pollfree().
