A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's platform/x86 WMI subsystem allowed potential memory corruption when opening the WMI char device. Due to changes in how the miscdevice pointer is stored in filp->private_data, wmi_char_open() could operate on a stale or incorrect device context if the associated WMI device was deleted, leading to possible memory corruption. The issue was resolved by correctly retrieving the WMI device data using container_of() from the miscdevice pointer, ensuring the correct device context is used.
