CVE-2023-52933 is an integer-overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel Squashfs implementation's handling of the extended-attribute identifier count. A malformed Squashfs image can supply an xattr_ids value that is converted to a negative signed integer. On 64-bit systems, sign extension during xattr metadata-size macro calculations produces an oversized unsigned value; on 32-bit systems, multiplication and subsequent rounding overflow. In both cases, the calculated xattr index-table length can become zero. A malformed xattr table start value can then cause the zero-length result to incorrectly satisfy the filesystem's table-size sanity check. The fix uses unsigned handling for xattr_ids and explicitly widens the relevant calculation to u64.
