CVE-2023-53257 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Linux kernel mac80211 wireless subsystem's processing of S1G (802.11ah) action frames. The affected code examined an action-code field before validating that the received management frame was large enough to contain that field. A truncated or malformed S1G action frame could therefore cause mac80211 to access data beyond the supplied frame boundary. The upstream fix validates the S1G action-frame length before accessing or evaluating its action code.
