CVE-2023-53354 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Linux kernel skbuff subsystem's skb_segment() function. The vulnerable ordering invokes zero-copy processing after skb_segment() has read skb fragment references and the fragment count into local variables. skb_orphan_frags() may then alter the fragment count or replace fragment storage, leaving the local nrfrags value and fragment reference stale. Segmentation can consequently reach its fragment boundary prematurely, follow a NULL list_skb pointer, and trigger a kernel NULL-pointer dereference and panic. The corrective change invokes the zero-copy functions before skb_segment() accesses fragment data and nr_frags.
