CVE-2023-53539 is an incomplete state-save and restoration flaw in the Linux kernel Soft-RoCE RDMA/rxe requester path. When an IP-layer packet drop causes rxe_xmit_packet() to return -EAGAIN, rxe_requester attempts to restore the work queue element (WQE) to its pre-transmission state for retransmission. The saved state omitted the DMA structure used to process scatter-gather entries, and state was not saved before packet construction modified that structure. Consequently, retransmission can operate with stale or advanced DMA/SGE processing state.
