CVE-2023-53673 is a Linux kernel Bluetooth stack vulnerability in disconnect handling, fixed by changing hci_event processing to call the disconnect callback before deleting the HCI connection object. In hci_cs_disconnect, the kernel could call hci_conn_del even when the disconnection operation failed. ISO, L2CAP, and SCO connection paths may still reference the associated hci_conn without taking an additional hci_conn_get reference, and therefore rely on the disconnect confirmation callback (disconn_cfm) to clean up their state. If the HCI connection is deleted first, those protocol layers can retain stale references and subsequently dereference freed memory. The provided crash traces show resulting NULL pointer dereference in iso_sock_sendmsg and slab use-after-free in hci_send_acl via l2cap_sock_sendmsg.
