CVE-2023-54391 is an authentication-bypass vulnerability in Proxmox Virtual Environment 7.0 through 8.0 affecting libpve-access-control versions before 8.0.4. The API login flow improperly accepts an arbitrary two-factor-authentication challenge value, allowing password verification to be skipped. An unauthenticated remote attacker can consequently authenticate as any existing enabled account that does not have a second factor configured, including the privileged root@pam account.
