CVE-2023-6317 is an authorization bypass in the secondscreen.gateway service on LG webOS versions 4 through 7. The flaw affects the account registration flow used by the TV control service exposed on ports 3000/3001 and leveraged by the LG ThinQ app. According to the provided content, the registration logic uses a variable named skipPrompt to determine whether the user must enter the TV security PIN. An attacker can manipulate this logic to create a privileged account without prompting for or validating the PIN. The described exploitation path involves first creating an account with no permissions, then creating a second account with elevated permissions while reusing the companion-client-key from the first account. The server checks only that the reused key exists, not that it is bound to the correct account, which enables bypass of the intended authorization step.
