CVE-2023-7102 is a critical remote code execution vulnerability affecting Barracuda Email Security Gateway appliances. The flaw was introduced through the third-party Spreadsheet::ParseExcel library used by the Amavis virus-scanning component in Barracuda ESG. Barracuda described the issue as parameter injection caused by vulnerable third-party logic. A remote attacker can exploit the flaw by sending a specially crafted Excel file as an email attachment, causing the attachment-scanning workflow to process attacker-controlled input and execute arbitrary code on the appliance. Affected versions span Barracuda ESG releases from 5.1.3.001 through 9.2.1.001 until the vulnerable logic was removed.
