CVE-2024-11187 is an uncontrolled resource-consumption vulnerability in BIND 9. A deliberately constructed DNS zone can cause certain queries to produce responses containing numerous records in the DNS Additional section. Repeated queries for such data make an authoritative BIND server, or a recursive resolver processing the zone, consume disproportionate CPU and other processing resources. Affected releases are BIND 9.11.0 through 9.11.37, 9.16.0 through 9.16.50, 9.18.0 through 9.18.32, 9.20.0 through 9.20.4, and 9.21.0 through 9.21.3, including the corresponding listed Supported Preview Edition release ranges.
