CVE-2024-11477 is a remote code execution vulnerability in 7-Zip affecting versions earlier than 24.07. The flaw exists in the implementation of Zstandard decompression, where insufficient validation of attacker-controlled archive data can trigger an integer underflow prior to a memory write. By supplying a specially crafted archive or compressed file that is processed by the vulnerable decompression logic, an attacker may corrupt memory and achieve arbitrary code execution in the context of the current process. The issue has also been described as a ZSTD-related buffer overflow condition arising from the underflow-driven memory corruption.
