CVE-2024-20272 is a vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Unity Connection. The flaw affects a specific API used by the software management interface and is caused by missing authentication checks combined with improper validation of user-supplied data. A remote attacker can interact with the exposed API without authenticating and upload arbitrary files to the affected system. By leveraging this capability, an attacker can execute commands on the underlying operating system and further escalate privileges to root. The issue therefore represents a pre-authentication path from network access to full system compromise of the Unity Connection appliance.
