CVE-2024-20399 is a command injection vulnerability in the command-line interface of Cisco NX-OS Software. The flaw is caused by insufficient validation of arguments passed to specific configuration CLI commands. An authenticated user with Administrator credentials can supply crafted input to an affected configuration command and cause arbitrary commands to be executed on the underlying operating system as root. The issue affects Cisco NX-OS-based platforms including affected Nexus and MDS series devices. On some platforms, such as Nexus 3000, Nexus 7000 running Cisco NX-OS 8.1(1) and later, and Nexus 9000 in standalone NX-OS mode, administrative users may already have bash-shell access, so exploitation may not increase privileges on those systems, but it still enables direct OS-level command execution through the vulnerable CLI path.
